Love, Ajee

Dear Ajee,

What it do baby! I haven’t written a letter to you in quite some time and the letters I have written weren't always too kind. I know you've struggled emotionally and mentally especially since its SAD season and its Covid-19; but I wanted to say it’s the way your crooked smile illuminates your face and any room you are in. A portrait of your maternal and paternal lineage is the architecture of your soul. It’s the gentleness in your heart that could make the devil repent for his indecencies. It’s the way your crooked smile makes a whole room erupt in laughter. I aint no comedian but a good laugh is sometimes the only medicine you need. It’s the way your imagination is the road map to your future. It’s the way you’re learning to love and like yourself for me. It’s the resiliency for me, TUH! Ajee you have been and survived many things you thought you couldn’t. It's the way strength encapsulates your being that even when you think you aren't strong; you still are David in this Goliath world.

Ajee, my brown skin girl who has turned into a brown skin woman, I may not say it enough but I love you and your light. Your love may get abused but don't let that change the way you exude it. Don't  dim your light for someone and something’s that tries to undermine yours. Oh, Ajee I write this love letter to you as a reminder that love always starts with you. Let how you love be a reflection of how you love yourself. Let your light be a tool that leads to serenity. My dearest Ajee, it's time for me to roll one up and I know I don't write many love letters to you but this is the start for you to be more kinder to yourself. It’s the start to you creating new healthy ways to remember you are loved not just by people but by you. Even when the light goes down a bit there's still light to fuel. Even when love seems too hard, start with like first and work your way back to love. I love you girl!

Luv,

Ajee
